International Student Orientation

New international students at Syracuse University must complete mandatory International Student Orientation requirements in addition to attending Syracuse Welcome, the University-wide orientation. All new International Students must arrive to campus by August 17, 2019.

Planning Your Arrival - August 16-17

New international students can move into their residence halls beginning August 16, 2019. Students must arrive by August 17 to participate in mandatory international student orientation, which includes a required English language assessment exam.

Getting to Campus

Syracuse University is easily accessible by car, plane, train, and public transportation.


Syracuse Hancock International Airport is about a 15-minute drive from campus. There are taxis available at the airport outside the departure gates. 

Syracuse Welcome Airport Shuttle Service

Syracuse University is excited to offer free shuttle service from Hancock International Airport (in Syracuse, NY). We are also excited to offer - for a small fee - a limited transportation service from JFK (in New York City) on August 14 and August 16. Please click this link to register for the shuttle service. 

Train and Bus

The William F. Walsh Regional Transportation Center (RTC) is served by Amtrak, Greyhound, Trailways, and Megabus. The RTC is about a 10-minute drive from campus. Centro buses (city bus) run from the RTC to campus on a regular basis.

International Student Move-In

International students may arrive in the United States 30 days prior to the start of their program as listed in the I-20 or DS2019.  All undergraduate international students should arrive on campus no later than Saturday, August 17, 2019. New international students can move into their residence hall on Friday, August 16, 2019.  

When you arrive in Syracuse, you should proceed directly to your residence hall to check-in, receive your room key and SU I.D. card.  Once you've checked in at your residence hall and moved in your belongings, you must go to the Slutzker Center for International Services with the following items:

  • Passport
  • Visa
  • I-20 or DS-2019 form
  • Copy of I-94 Arrival Record
  • Proof of health insurance if you are an exchange student

The Slutzker Center will be open on both Saturday and Sunday that weekend to allow you to begin the new student arrival process.

International Student Orientation - August 18-21

You must arrive no later than August 17.  To register for orientation, complete the Orientation Registration Form. You will receive a complete orientation schedule when you arrive on campus.
