International Student Orientation

New international students at Syracuse University, must attend mandatory Syracuse Welcome International, mandatory international student orientation in addition to attending Syracuse Welcome, the university-wide new student orientation. 

Saturday, August 18-Tuesday, August 21, 2018

This mandatory orientation program includes English language testing as well as information on cultural adjustment to the United States and Syracuse University. Students will have the opportunity to meet other incoming international students in both educational and social settings. Registration is required using the Orientation Registration Form available on between June 1st and July 15th

Non-native speakers of English will also need to take the English Language Assessment Exam. Complete the English Language Assessment Exam registration form.

International Student Move-In

International students may arrive in the United States 30 days prior to the start of their program as listed in the I-20 or DS2019.  All undergraduate international students should arrive on campus no later than Saturday, August 18, 2018.

International students can move into their residence hall on Friday, August 17, 2018.  An early move-in fee of approximately $35 per night will be billed to your Bursar account the day of your arrival on campus until Tuesday, August 21, 2018. 

When you arrive in Syracuse, you should proceed directly to your residence hall to check-in, receive your room key and SU I.D. card.  Once you've checked in at your residence hall and moved in your belongings, you must go to the Slutzker Center for International Services with the following items:

  • Passport
  • Visa
  • I-20 or DS-2019 form
  • Copy of I-94 Arrival Record
  • Proof of health insurance if you are an exchange student

The Slutzker Center will be open on both Saturday and Sunday that weekend to allow you to begin the new student arrival process.
